NAM Physical Education Fitness Assessments
The girls and boys in the 6-9 and 9-12 age groups have been participating in their semi-annual fitness assessments for the last two weeks.  During the week of September 29th-October 3rd the students will be completing their fitness assessments with the 1-mile run (3rd-6th grades) and the 1/2 mile run (1st-2nd grades).  For next week, I am asking that all students in 1st-6th grades dress appropriately with gym shoes and comfortable clothing.

Thank you.
Mr. Napier
NAM Physical Education Teacher

Spirit Wear Orders – Some of the spirit wear items are back-ordered and will take an additional 2-3 weeks to arrive.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

On Monday, September 29, 2014, I cordially invite you to attend our annual Open House at North Avondale Montessori School.  Open House will begin at 6:00 PM and will promptly end at 7:00 PM.

Beginning at 6:00 PM parents/guardians from all grade levels will meet in the cafetorium for a brief meeting.  Our general meeting will conclude at approximately 6:05 PM, with parents/guardians and students departing from the cafetorium to your child’s classroom. In the classroom you will meet your child’s teacher, see examples of your child’s work, and your child may demonstrate Montessori materials. Parents/Guardians please remember the purpose of the Open House is for you to meet your child’s teacher and learn about the instructional day.  The teacher will not discuss individual progress at this time.  However, the teacher will have a conference sign up sheet available if you wish to make an appointment to discuss your student’s progress.

Due to the amount of time involved meeting with the parent/guardian for a parent/teacher conference, please directly contact your child’s teacher to schedule an appointment. Appointments are on a first-come- first-serve basis. Also your child’s teacher may contact you to schedule a conference.  This is a constant process where open communication benefits the child. Our first Parent-Teacher Conference Night is scheduled for Thursday, October 2, 2014 from 4 PM to 7 PM.

I hope you will attend Open House and schedule a conference to discuss your child’s progress. You are a major link to your child’s success and we value your opinion, input, and the opportunity to meet with you. By all of us working together, I am confident we will provide your child with the best education and art experience possible!

Roger R. Lewis, Principal

Parents,
Thanks to our NAM Foundation, our students will have access to the Study Island program.  Study Island is used as a resource to support instruction. Students may use Study Island anywhere, anytime, on any computer.
To log on, go to studyisland.com, and use the following information:
Username: firstname.lastname@nam
(Example: charlie.brown@nam) Password: last name (Example: brown)

The program is detailed for each grade level:
Grade 2 – Math and Reading
Grade 3 – Math and Reading
Grade 4 – Math, Reading & Social Studies
Grade 5 – Math, Reading & Social Studies
Grade 6 – Math, Reading & Social Studies The Grade 3 Reading OAA is Tuesday, Oct 7th.  I strongly recommend all grade 3 students work on Study Island to increase their score.  Remember with the new 3rd grade Reading Guarantee from the Ohio Department of Education, a student must score higher than 394 to be promoted to 4th grade.
Last year, we had our best year as a school for academic gains.  Our students answered 234,390 questions on Study Island.  Our teachers did a fantastic job, delivering content to students..
Let’s keep up the hard work as we continue to strive for academic excellence!

Mr. Lewis
