Dear Parents and Students!!

In the best interest of our students, the NAM talent show was postponed last Friday. The event has been rescheduled for Friday, March 8, 2019. The parent volunteers recommended to me that we go in this direction. There were several factors in making this decision but the main reason being that we needed more time to prepare our students. As I receive more information for the March 8th event I will convey the messages to you via Weekly Rocket, Schoology, and Robo calls.

Also as a reminder parents if you call the school to report a students absence/tardy your child will still receive a call from the School Messenger Robo Call system stating that they are absent from school. This is a automotive system used throughout the district that we do not control.

Brain Bowl

On Thursday January 31st, 2019, our NAM Brain Bowl Team will play at Fairview.

 

Valentine Grams

Student council will be selling “Valentine Grams” the week of February 5th – February 12th. Students will be allowed to write a message with a treat attached to a friend, family member or NAM Staff. Grams will be passed out on February 14th. Valentine Grams can be purchased from any student council member or from Mrs. Shockley-Matthews in room 1224 for .75 cents or two for $1.25. Profits will go towards student council. Additionally, if anyone would like to donate a bag of Valentine candy like medium sized suckers or chocolates to assist student council with this endeavor it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

 

Winter Wonderland Family Dance

On February 9th, 2019 from 1 pm- 3 pm NAM will host the Winter Wonderland Family Dance. Please see the attached flier for additional details.

 

NAM-Soccer

NAM Soccer Families: Registration is now open for Spring 2019 SAY Soccer. Registration will be open now through January 31 at this site: https://sports.bluesombrero.com/NASAY Teams can fill up fast, and sign-ups are on a first come, first served basis. Sign up quickly to ensure your child’s slot! The youngest birth date for this season is 7/31/2013. Practices are usually once or twice per week at coaches discretion. Games will be Saturdays and/or Sundays starting in April. If you have questions, email Will at: lundstromw@yahoo.com

NAM Positive School Culture

The NAM Positive School Culture Committee sponsors an honorary Principal’s Breakfast each month.  Teachers recognize one student from each class who has shown positive qualities in the classroom such as effort, improvement, and leadership. (Please see the attached flier for the selections for the month of December)

 

Parent Volunteers

We are in need of a 6th Grade Recognition Night Chairperson (or co-chairpeople). Typically a 4th or 5th grade parent “pays it forward” and serves as the event chair so that the 6th grade parents can enjoy the special night honoring their child. You won’t be in this alone – instructions will be provided! Please consider volunteering to be the chairperson for this wonderful tradition. Anyone interested should email linnae.kendall@gmail.com. This Friday January 25th, we host our annual NAM Talent Show. I encourage you to come out and support our students. We have many outstanding acts ready to perform. The proceeds will benefit the grade 6 Washington DC field trip this spring. A special thanks to Ms. Hayes-Bogle, Ms. Morrison and Ms. Dangerfield for organizing the event. The doors will open at 5:30 PM with the show beginning at 6 PM.

Dear Parents and Students!!

Last week we significantly reduced the number of our late arrivals! Thank you for assisting and having our students to school on time. Our goal is to prepare our students for the next age level, being on time permits our students to receive important reading and math instruction. Please continue the great job of having students arrive to school on time!

Looking ahead at the state assessments are as follows EA testing 4–8 through 4-19. Math and science 4–22 through 5–10.

Dear Parents and Students!!
 
Welcome Back to School!! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and we look forward to working with your child second semester! A reminder school begins at 7:45 AM and dismisses at 2:15 PM. Students arriving after 7:45 AM are considered tardy. Please have our students to school on time so they do not miss important instructional time. Most of our teachers begin the day with a reading or math lesson and missing this instruction time puts our students at a disadvantage.
Thank you for helping us reduce the number of tardies and I look forward to seeing you on time ready to work hard every day.

Fall 2018 NAM Memorial Brick Campaign – Orders due by Dec. 21st
Become a permanent part of NAM history by engraving a paver brick to surround the Leahr-Heilbrun Memorial Bench in front of the main entrance to the school. This is a great way to honor a NAM student, family, alumni, or staff member. Proceeds benefit our students and PTSO through the NAMS Foundation. If your purchase is a gift, we can make a custom certificate upon request. Bricks purchased by Friday, Dec. 21st will be installed early in the near year. Just a reminder 2nd quarter will end on Friday Dec 21st when school closes for winter break. PTCN will be held on Thursday, November 29th from pm-pm. After you review your child’s midterm, you may want to schedule a conference to discuss your concerns. Please monitor grades by using Power School as we approach the end of 1st semester.

Student Council

Student Council would like to thank everyone for the donations that were received for the Thanksgiving food drive. We hope that we were able to assist families that were in need. We appreciate your kindness and generosity!!!

Employee Spotlight-Mr. Edward Brown

Good Day, my name is Edward Brown, Jr. The new Security Personnel with Cincinnati Public School working at North Avondale Montessori. Mr. Brown is married to wife Lauren with 4 children and 6 grand children. Mr. Brown has over 35 years security experience in the private sector. Now working for the public schools, he has maintained strong integrity throughout his security service years. He has worked with the youth for the most part of his life being a Martial Arts instructor with 46 years experience. He has maintained a strong influence on the young and old while working to develop “young people” into “great people” Mr. Brown took on his role as Security Officer for N.A.M. this past September. His duties include monitoring the students, making sure that the building is secure, reviewing and watching cameras, assisting teachers and trying to keep a strong and safe environment for the students. Mr. Brown in his free time enjoys traveling with his family, playing Chess while practicing his love for all mankind. Mr Brown is truly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of North Avondale Montessori Family ….it’s truly a blessing …. Yours Kindly Edward Brown, Jr
